is it really that bad?

I'm thinking about going to a north eastern college(currently a junior) and I live in Florida. I haven't been around cold weather for extended periods of time since I was four, and I've never been in the New England wet/type of cold weather. I've heard it can be pretty miserable. How much of a factor should this be when choosing a school? Is it something I can get over? Is it really THAT bad?

Well, yes, it's pretty cold, but people DO wear coats, hats, gloves, etc. up there. Most people are flexible enough to adjust to temperature changes. However, it's not sunny all the time and that can be a factor if you are prone to winter depression. If you live in the frostbelt/northern states, you can go for more than a week without ever seeing the sun. If you have seasonal affective disorder/winter depression, those dark overcast days can make your depression worse. Some people aren't affected by the weather or sunlight and some of us are. If winter depression is an issue for you, then you'll probably do better in school and be happier if you are in a sunnier, more southern location.
