Confused on how PVC pipe is measured?
I bought a piece of PVC SDR 35 D-3034 for a home project at HomeDepot. It is a 1/4 inch thick and has an outside diameter of 6 1/4 inch. HomeDepot didn't sell end caps for that size pipe so I have to by them online. The only problem I'm having is that I don't know how to read PVC pipe sizes (no idea what SDR 35 ASTM D-3034 means). I found an end cap on Amazon (here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Trends-P1606-Cap/dp/B000H5XSC0) and under the description it says "Solvent weld. For SRD35/ASTM3034 PVC sewer & drain pipe. 6". Manufacturer's number: P1606" will this work? it says it's 6" but it also says for SRD35/ASTM3034, so I'm confused.

First of all, this type of pipe is measured ID, not OD.
SDR stands for Standard Dimension Ratio.. It refers to the ratio of wall thickness to actual pipe OD.
Being SDR 35, you have what is commonly used for sewer drain only. The OD of your pipe is actually 6.28", which would give you a 0.28 wall thickness, for what ever that tid bit is worth..
Yes, that cap will work, but I'm fairly sure that you should be able to find it locally in either a hardware store or plumbing supply house (where the pros go) for less $. I'm a big fan of Amazon.com (especially Super Saver Shipping), but with shipping, your looking for almost $10 each.. OUCH
