Plastic Mold electronics could slash solar panel costs by Emma
Princeton University engineers have developed a new technique for producing electricity-conducting Plastic mold that could reduce the costs of manufacturing solar panels.
The plastics offer a low-cost alternative to indium tin oxide, an expensive conducting material currently used in the panels, according to the researchers. Translucency and malleability properties are also good.
"Conductive polymers have been around for a long time, but processing them to make something useful degraded their ability to conduct electricity," said Yueh-Lin Loo, associate professor of chemical engineering at Princeton University, who led the research team.
She added: "We have figured out how to avoid this trade-off. We can shape the plastics into a useful form while maintaining high [electrical] conductivity."
The research holds promise for producing new types of electronic device and new ways of manufacturing existing technologies, but has been hampered by an anomalous loss of electrical conductivity associated with mouldable plastics.
"People didn't understand what was happening," said Loo, who co-wrote the paper. 'We discovered that in making the polymers mouldable, their structures are trapped in a rigid form, which prevented electrical current from travelling through them."
Once they understood the underlying problem, Loo and her colleagues developed a way to "relax" the polymer structure by treating it with an acid after they were processed into the desired form. They were then able to make a plastic transistor using a low-cost printing technique.
The Princeton findings were published online in the March issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Loo said the rapid prototype technique could potentially be scaled up for mass production: "This is a big deal. You could distribute the plastics in cartridges the way printer ink is sold, and you wouldn't need exotic machines to print the patterns."

I have a bad stepper motor on my Carter BBD carburetor for my '85 Jeep CJ7 , anyone know where to get one?
The plastic electrical connector seperated from the housing, internal wires broke, not repairable. Can't find a stepper motor anywhere, but carb will work fine with a new one. Just don't want to replace the carb if all it needs is a part.
The Carter BBD does not have the best reputation in the world. It notorious for not idling and is finicky about dirt in the idle tubes. Mine was a bear to keep from flooding when on hills. I ousted mine and went with a Fuelie kit.
I've looked high and low for parts and came up with zilch!

Try any late 1970s to 1980s Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer with 360. If you get an earlier carb, it won't have the annoying altitude adjustment crap on the back of the carb.
The hardest part of the swap isn't even hard. You need to fabricate a small linkage adapter for the throttle. The 2100 is designed to have the throttle cable pull BACKWARDS, but the 258 throttle cable/rod pulls DOWNWARDS. All you need is a piece of 1"x3" thin metal, a drill and a couple bolts. You could even just weld the sucker on.
Here is some info I compile a while ago.
Rebuild kits:
2100: Napa (Echlin brand) 2-5585approx $12+ tax.
Sorensen from AutoZone about $21 + tax.
BBD: Napa (Echlin) 2-5671C approx $15 + tax.
Bolt patterns(as measured center of hole to center of hole):
BBD = 3 1/4 x 1 7/8 inches 4 bolt 2 bbl
2100 = 5 1/8 x 4 1/2 inches 4 bolt 2 bbl
The Mr Gasket part number is 1937, which is a standard 2 BBL to 4 BBL adapter. The 2100 has a 4 BBL bolt pattern.
The cfm rating for the M/C 2100 depends on the model that you have. Look for the following numbe sequence in the model number:
1.08 = 200 cfm
1.14 = 200 to 300 cfm
1.21 = 360 cfm
Engines to get a 2100 from to name a few:
AMC 304, 360
Ford 302, 330, 350, 360, 351, 390, 400, 429.
Look for Ford/Mercury vehicles from the 70s: Bronco, Comet, Cougar, Maverick, Meteor, Montego, F-250, Econoline, Falcon, Fairlane, Mustang, Torino.
