Are plain steel strings spose to sound different?

Ok when I was re-stringing my acoustic guitar my G string broke and I bought a plain steel string and it sounds different from the other strings(It's tuned). BTW the strings are D'Addario Phosphor Bronze .012 and the plain just says acoustic or electric plain steel (also D'Addario) .61mm which is the same as the string I broke. oh ye on the back it says it can be for D or G

My experience is that different type and brand of strings, sound different. I only replace a single string from a spare set that matches what I have on the instrument. I replace the entire set as soon as possible, but never within 2 days of performing.
