Halo Lighting by
The origins of the Cooper Lighting Company can be traced to 1956, when the Halo Lighting Company was first formed. Halo began with the simple philosophy of producing high-quality, easy-to-install fixtures for home and commercial use. Since that time Cooper has incorporated several lines of lighting fixtures, including Track Lighting, area lighting, fluorescent lights, vandal-proof fixtures, and recessed lighting.

Halo Recessed Downlight Housings.
For remodeling projects, Halo offers the Halo H99RT, a 4" non-insulated remodel housing which fits a PAR20/R20 incandescent bulb. This low voltage Halo fixture is for use in existing ceilings where the insulation can be kept 3" from all sides. The small aperture is suited to provide accent and task lighting. Pre-installed captive bar hangers allow the housing to be positioned at any point within a 24" joist span.
For sloped ceilings, Halo offers the Halo - H47ICT and the Halo - H47T for use in insulated and non-insulated ceilings, respectively. These fixtures are designed for sloped ceiling installations, ranging from 2/12 to 6/12 pitch. Their unique arrowhead design provides nail-less" installation.
For new construction housing, Halo recommends the Halo H99T. This incandescent fixture comes with housing and hanger bars, and can be easily positioned within a 24" joist span. Score lines are provided for easy field shortening for 12" joists. The H99T may be installed into non-insulated ceilings, or ceilings where the insulation can be kept 3" from housing.
Low voltage recessed downlight fixtures are also available, for new construction (Halo H1499T), non-insulated (Halo H7RT) and insulated applications (Halo H1499RT). Fitted with magnetic transformers, these fixtures easily downgrade line voltage to low voltage current.
Halo Recessed Downlight Trims.
The housing units described above should be accompanied by compatible trims, which come in a variety of styles and colors. For low voltage fixtures, you may choose from such trims as the Halo H1420P featuring a slotted aperture in matte white. Baffle trims such as the Halo H1419P offer a narrow aperture that traps and shapes light to minimize glare and reduce brightness by narrowing the focus of the downlighting beam. They also provide control for reflector style (R, BR and PAR) lamps. The white Eyeball Trim 1498 is another popular option, which fits a 60-Watt MR16 downlight, and allows you to point the light in any direction.
The advantage of using halogen light bulbs in these Halo housing fixtures is that they can burn brighter and whiter than incandescents, but this brightness comes at a price. These bulbs can become very hot, since the regeneration allows the filament to burn at higher temperatures. The amount of heat produced means that the ideal spot for halogen light bulbs is in outdoor lighting. The whiter light will let you really show off the stunning colors of your garden and exterior landscape.
Another excellent use of halogen lamps is for art lighting. The strong White Light produced accentuates the color spectrum within art pieces. Low voltage bulbs deflect UV and infrared rays that could harm paintings, as well as other works of art. Many of the products allow you to adjust the beam, in order to focus the illumination directly onto the desired piece. These items may also be recessed for a refined look.

floor joists pulling away from side of house--gap between wall and floor--how to fix?
Hi! we bought an old mansard (1890) 3 years ago and have found that the floor joists in one area appear to be slowly pulling away from the side of the house. There was a small gap when we bought the place, but it seems to be growing slightly. There is now a1/2 inch gap along 6 ft of the house, including a few of the lower stairs going up to the house. In the basement, we can see that the floor joists are not fully resting on the side of the foundation, and are going to see if joist hangers might help. My question is whether there is a better solution for this, and if this is indicative of a more serious foundation problem? Also is there a way to "fix" the gap without major reconstruction? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I'd have to question whether its the joists pulling away, or the foundation pulling away. It could easily by the foundation at both ends of the joists shifting too, with the joists traveling with one end or the other. I'd look at the opposite wall, and see if there are gaps there too, if not at these joists, then those adjacent to them. The rim joist could be warped too... there are just too many different possibilities here to be diagnosed without looking at the home.
You didnt say what kind of foundation... but a lot of the homes from that period used stone foundations. I'd strongly suggest getting a structural engineer in to inspect your home.
If the foundation is the problem, then you'll need a good contractor to come in, to remove and replace sections of it at a time, until its all been replaced. Or, it may not be that drastic, and repairing it may be sufficient. You need that structural engineer tho to determine that. Joist hangars are a great invention, but if your problem is the foundation, theyre not the solution you need.
