Can alkaline damage PVC?
I have some Polyfilla Trade All Purpose Filler which I want to use to repair some plaster. The filler/plaster would need to cover a newly installed Twin and Earth Cable (with the grey sheath which I believe is PVC?).
I read the data sheet on Polycell Trade's website and it says that the mixture with water creates an alkaline reaction.
So essentially, I would like to know if this alkaline creation will damage the new cable? (I want to save some money and not buy purpose plaster as it is just a small area). I also read elsewhere online that as the Twin and Earth Cable is sheathed in the grey PVC it is essentially protected and therefore the capping or trunking other people are describing is not necessary?
Actually water mixed w portland cement, or plaster, or lime will create an alkaline mixture.
Although alkaline or basic, it is not a very strong base.
PVC, even flexible pvc as used in electric cable insulation should not be hampered by this.
