Is my multimeter broken?
I just bought a Gardner Bender multimeter at my local hardware store. I am not too experienced in this stuff, but I think something is wrong. When I try to read the voltage of a 9V battery, nothing happens. The screen always shows just a decimal point, no matter what I do. And yes, it is turned on, and it is on the right settings. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just broken?
did you touch the two probes to the two battery terminals? Press hard, it's sometimes difficult to make a good connection.
Try a different battery.
Are you sure you are on the correct setting?
Try ohms, and short the leads together, see if it reads 0.000, then open the leads, it should read something different.
