What plumbing piece lets water/air in but not out?

I am trying to make something for a gardening water control. I have an idea, however I need to know what plumbing piece I would need that lets water/air out, but will not let it go back into the valve.

Some plumbing pieces I have researched are called:
Straight Female Connector
3/8" x 1/2" Female NPT Removable Adapter
1/2" female iron pipe to 3/8"

Is one of these items what I need?

Don't ask me about my project, I like to create and fidget with stuff, don't know if it will work. But I need to know where to get one of these types of valves.
