How do I install an eye bolt or ceiling hook in a steel framed house?
Hello there,
I have a steel framed house, and I'm currently trying to hang something from the ceiling, which I need to make sure is going in to one of the steel stud.
I have found the studs I am going to use with a stud finder. I found some ceiling hooks, but they are designed to be twisted in to wood, which is not possible with metal even with a pilot hole.
The steel studs are not exposed, they are holding up a plaster board ceiling. Therefore it must be a solution that allows me to drill in to the stud without having to put a bolt in.
What sort of product do I need to use?
Depending on what you plan to hang, light weight (0-10 lbs) items can be hung by drilling & tapping the steel joist. Keep in mind that we are talking about 3/8" bolts & hanging items that will hang still & no be swinging.
Anything heavier or if it will swing or move around, you will need to open the drywall ceiling to allow a nut(s) & lock washer to be attached to the hidden part of the bolt/hook, then patch & finish your patch.
