Not long ago, pipes were being shipped to end users without its ends being closed. The open ends of the pipes attracted dust and moisture and in most cases the pipes started corroding very quickly. In other cases, it became the breeding place for insects. The corroded pipes were rejected by end users and the manufacturer suffered loss. To combat this situation, designers came out with a wonderful idea viz., the End Caps; and thereby putting an âEnd Capâ to the problem of corrosion of pipes, accumulation of dust etc. With the introduction of âEnd Capâ the rejection rate of pipes came down drastically.
What are end caps:
These are simple plastic devices which are fixed to both the end of the pipe. They are available in various designs like simple cap which are manufactured to the actual size of the pipe. There are other types like the tapered variety which can be used for pipes of various sizes. The tapered variety of End Cap is versatile in nature both in application and use. The other popular model is the screw types which are again suitable only for pipes of particular diameter.
What are the uses of End Caps:
One of the main advantages, as said earlier is that it keeps the inside of the pipe clean. The other advantage is that it also keeps the end of the pipe sharp and protects the pipes from damage during transportation. There was a fear among manufacturers of pipes that by fixing the End Caps it would increase the overall weight of the pipe which in turn increase the transportation cost.
