A shower drain is an important component of your bathroom, as it flushes all the dirty and waste matter out of your bathroom. For domestic purposes, shower stall drains are generally made up of plastic or stainless steel. Stainless steel shower stall drains are generally the most preferred ones, as these are comparatively durable and stronger than their plastic counterparts. Shower stall drains are mostly installed when the actual home construction process is going on, but in case the shower stall drain of your bathroom breaks or comes out of the concrete cover surrounding it, then you definitely need to learn shower stall drain installation. Shower Stall Drain Installation

Well, shower stall drain installation procedure is not at all a difficult one. In fact, you can do it easily all by yourself if you know the right procedure and have all the required material at hand. Here is the procedure for shower stall drain installation.

In order to install a shower stall drain the plumbing equipment required is minimal. You will just require PVC pipes, some PVC cement, drain and connecting elbows.

The first step in shower stall drain installation is to calculate the distance between the shower and the main sewage line. Once you are done with the distance calculations, purchase PVC pipe accordingly, of that length and dimensions.

Now the actual installation process begins. Attach a PVC with the help of some cement to the main sewage line and then take the PVC pipe along the ceiling to the side of the wall, where the shower is situated. Next, attach a connecting elbow to the PVC pipe and take it through the wall till the wooden rafters located below the shower. Once again, fix an elbow to the PVC pipe with some cement and connect another pipe to the other side of the elbow. See that this pipe can be placed under the shower stall drain. Now once again fix an elbow beneath the drain hole. Prepare a hole in your bathroom flooring for the drain to be placed exactly above the elbow of the PVC pipe. Ensure that the diameter of the drain and the mouth of the PVC pipe are exactly same. Fix the drain above the hole to the PVC elbows with the help of screws.

Shower Stall Drain Repair

Repairing shower stall drain is also not a very difficult job. The materials required to repair a shower stall drain are baking soda, bleach solution, rubber gloves, screwdriver, plastic bag, vinegar, augur, some amount of pitcher, plunger and tweezers.

At the outset, flush out all the water from the shower. Further, remove all the screws of the drain cover and take it out. Now, take the plunger and place its rubber over the open end of the drain. Try to lift up as much dirt as possible and then lift the plunger quickly. Take care while lifting the plunger, do not let the suction break at this time. The next step is to clean the debris into the opening of the drainage. Use the pair of rubber gloves for this purpose. Absorb the dirty material from the drainage opening with the help of tweezers and put all the material into a plastic bag.

Once you have performed the basic cleaning, add about one cup of bleach and about one gallon of hot water to the opening of the drain. This solution usually clears the dirty material, but in case it does not do it, clean the drainage opening once again. Now, add some baking soda and one cup of vinegar to the drainage opening. You will see foam and bubbles until the baking soda completely dissolves. Once again, pour approximately one gallon of hot water into the drain. The final step is to change the drain cover and fit a new one. See that the water is drained down easily. If it does so, you have been successful in repairing the shower stall drain.

What's a good way to hang PVC pipe at the top of the tank?

I have 2 4" 90 degree elbow pvc joints that I want to hang at the top back corners of the tank.

Wow! 4" (Diameter?) 90's must be a pretty good sized tank...they make something called "Plumbers tape" which is roll of Plastic Strip that you can wrap around the fittings and fasten several different ways....if they try and sell you "holy iron" tell em to take a hike....that's the same thing as plumbers tape...only made of compressed steel and iron flakes....

Or you can always try plastic wire ties or "zip-strips" they come in various sizes and lengths..
