Determining if the collar is the right size is easy. The ideal size training collar should fit snugly, yet comfortably over the dog's head.

Choke collars are some of the most popular dog training collars that you will find today. These kinds of collars are used extensively by the dog or puppy training community where they are often referred to as correction or constriction collars. There are a variety of names that go under the broad heading of "training collar". These are all training collars and are used by professionals and amateur trainers alike.

Most choke collars are the classic chain-loop readily available in most pet stores. They also come in nylon varieties. Choke collars come in two types: collars that have metal prongs inside and the collars that do not have these metal prongs.

Contrary to the mistaken impression of some dog owners or even many non-dog owners the choke collar is not some sort of a later day torture device capable causing harm to dogs. On the contrary a choke collar, if it is employed properly, can be an effective dog training tool and can help result in you and your dog getting the most out of their walks together. If you are not comfortable with the idea of using a choke collar, then try selecting a choke collar that has no prongs on the inside of it

While these collars are still popular with most dog owners they may be enjoying less popularity with many modern trainers. Nevertheless training collars are great dog training tools if they are used properly.

Many dog owners will probably misuse the choke collar, if they are under the mistaken belief that when the dog feels the collar tightening that he will stop pulling . The slip-on choke collar works by tightening around the dog's neck when you give it a quick yank, which then disciplines him if he should begin to pull away during your walking with him, this is effective and harmless.

A properly fitted collar is very important and if it is fitted correctly it makes the collar easier to use and a lot safer for the dog. To size the collar correctly, measure your dog's neck with a tape measure and ensure your dogs choke collar is no more than 2-3 inches larger. So if your dog has a neck 12" in diameter, you would want to buy a training collar that is 14" in length. Chain slip collars are usually sized in two inch increments.

Too large a collar will run the risk of accidentally falling off and the extra length of chain can result in far too strong a correction which may result in injury.

When you are fitting a training collar on your dog, make sure the part of the chain which is connected to the leash should be on the top of the dog's neck so that the collar releases the instant the leash is loosened. Training collars work best by being able to make the collar tight and loose in a fast manner. The first part of the correction is tightening the collar, and second part of the correction is making it loose.

After you practice just a little bit of patience, you should find that you and your dog will be able to take walks together without having to pull on the collar a bit.

Nylon's tensile strength is 500*10^6 N/m^2

Unless you're measuring from the top of the object to the ground, there is no way to determine how far from the ground it is without knowing the height of the object.

The formula would be the height of the pole plus the thickness of the cord minus the distance between the top of the cord and the bottom of the object.

Since you don't know how tall the object is you can't complete the equation. The weight of the object and the distance of the poles makes no difference assuming the cord is strong enough to hold the weight and that the cord would break from being pulled apart.
