According to many people and experts in this area, there are 5 common materials used for hose couplings, steel, brass, stainless steel, aluminium or plastic.
Types of hose adapters
Over the years, many new hose adapters have been introduced in the market. Some of the most common types of hose couplings are:
Cam and groove: This type of hose coupling involves a a quick connect fluid transfer hose coupling that consists of a male "adapter" and female "coupler".
Hoselink: This is a bayonet type connector utilizing an 0 Ring compression to provide a watertight connection. These are mostly used for home and commercial garden hoses.
Hozelock: Mostly used for garden hoses, this type of hose coupling involves a push-fit connector.

Expansion ring: This type of hose coupling is commonly used on lay flay fire hose, it has the advantage of providing no flow restriction, as the expansion ring is expanded to match the inner diameter of the hose.
